WiFi connectivity allows your Research And Desire wireless Remote (RADR) to receive updates wirelessly, including new device support and bug fixes. This guide walks you through the simple setup process.
Why Connect to WiFi?
Connecting your RADR to WiFi enables:
- Over-the-air updates — Get the latest firmware and features without cables
- New device support — Receive updates that add compatibility with new Bluetooth devices
- Bug fixes — Stay up to date with the latest improvements
Info
WiFi is optional for basic use. RADR controls devices entirely over Bluetooth, so you can use it without WiFi. However, we recommend connecting to receive updates.
Before You Start
Make sure you have:
- Your home WiFi network name and password
- A phone or tablet to scan the QR code (or you can connect manually)
- Your RADR charged and powered on
Warning
RADR only supports 2.4GHz WiFi networks. If your router broadcasts both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, make sure to connect to the 2.4GHz network.
Connecting to WiFi
Step 1: Open WiFi Settings
From the main menu on your RADR:
- Select Settings using the right knob and button
- Select WiFi Settings
Your RADR will create its own temporary WiFi network for setup.
Step 2: Connect to RADR's Setup Network
A QR code appears on your RADR's screen. You have two options:
Option A: Scan the QR Code (Easiest)
Use your phone's camera to scan the QR code. Your phone will automatically connect to RADR's setup network.
Option B: Connect Manually
On your phone or tablet, go to WiFi settings and connect to:
- Network Name: RADR Setup
- Password: None (open network)
Step 3: Enter Your WiFi Details
Once connected to RADR's setup network, a configuration page opens automatically in your browser.
Tip
If the page doesn't open automatically, open your browser and go to 192.168.4.1
On the configuration page:
- Select your home WiFi network from the list
- Enter your WiFi password
- Tap Save
Step 4: Wait for Confirmation
RADR will connect to your WiFi network. When successful, you'll see:
"WiFi Connected" on the screen
Your RADR is now ready to receive updates!
Troubleshooting
The configuration page doesn't open
- Make sure you're connected to "RADR Setup" (check your phone's WiFi settings)
- Try opening a browser and going to 192.168.4.1
- Wait a few seconds after connecting — the page may take a moment to load
- If the page still doesn't appear, restart WiFi Settings on your RADR and try again
My WiFi network isn't in the list
- Move closer to your WiFi router
- Make sure you're looking for your 2.4GHz network (not 5GHz)
- Try refreshing the page
- Restart WiFi Settings and scan again
Connection fails after entering password
- Double-check that you entered the correct password
- Make sure you selected the right network
- Move RADR closer to your router
- Verify your router is working (try connecting another device)
The setup times out before I can connect
The WiFi setup portal has a 30-second timeout. If it closes before you finish:
- Go back to Settings > WiFi Settings on your RADR
- The setup process will restart
- Have your WiFi password ready to enter quickly
I connected but RADR says it's not online
- Check that your home WiFi has internet access
- Try restarting your RADR (Settings > Restart Device)
- Re-run the WiFi setup process
