<Accordion title="Video transcript">
  **0:00** Today, I'm going to show you how to enroll your device in Alpha, so that you start receiving code before anyone else.

  **0:06** This may include features that are both experimental or going to be in the next production release. They'll work, of course, in the production environment, and you should expect everything that's in a release candidate or an Alpha release to be functional inside of the dashboard and on-device.

  **0:23** That said, it is all experimental, so if you hit any bugs, definitely please reach us at [support@researchanddesire.com](mailto:support@researchanddesire.com) and let us know before this goes to production that something's amiss.

  **0:34** Okay. So, first things first, I have a lockbox here that's connected to Wi-Fi and fully charged, and I'm going to go down to settings and I'm going to scroll to the new option, enroll in alpha.

  **0:47** As a quick comment, you must be version 1.17.9 or greater to use this feature. If you don't see it, you'll have to update your device first by using the update device option.

  **1:02** Okay. So I'm going to click on enroll in alpha. I'll see a brief and I'll link to these documents, and I'll click enroll.

  **1:09** This will reboot my device. Perfect. You can now see alpha in the version code and at the top. This will not upload or update to alpha until it connects to the internet.

  **1:23** It is now checking against the alpha endpoint to see if there's new alpha updates. And in this case, it did not find one.

  **1:31** So I will go manually check for an update, just to make sure I'm on that latest code. Yeah, up to date.

  **1:37** Perfect. Well, there we are. You now have access to alpha, and you should expect to receive alpha code as we make new releases.

## Leaving the alpha program

If you want to return to stable firmware releases, use the web flasher to reinstall the production firmware.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Connect your device">
    Plug your Lockbox into your computer using a USB-C data cable.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the web flasher">
    Navigate to [the web flasher](https://dashboard.researchanddesire.com/app/tools/web-flasher) in Chrome or another Chromium-based browser.

  </Step>

  <Step title="Verify the change">
    After the flash completes, your device restarts. The version displayed on the screen will no longer show "alpha" in the version code.

## Troubleshooting alpha issues

If you experience unusual behavior while on alpha firmware — such as the dashboard showing your device as offline when it appears connected, or lock sessions stuck in a pending state — see the connectivity troubleshooting guide for step-by-step instructions.
