Overview

The 24 mm Nut – Hex Flower is a drop‑in alternative to the standard 5‑sided nut used on the OSSM clamping thread. Its petal‑shaped exterior gives you more grip positions for controlled, comfortable tightening—especially when your hands are slippery or you need a little extra leverage.
This is a non‑standard part. The default build uses the “24 mm Nut – 5‑Sided” design. Use this variant if you prefer improved finger grip or want to pair with the Hex Flower wrench.

Function

  • Internal 24 mm printed thread matches the OSSM clamping thread components
  • Hex‑flower profile provides multiple contact points for confident hand torque
  • Works with the Hex Flower wrench when additional leverage is needed
  • Secures toy mounting accessories against the end effector and prevents loosening during use
Print this nut in the provided file orientation. Reorienting printed threads typically weakens the first few layers and can cause delamination or stripped threads under load.

Compatibility

  • Interface: OSSM 24 mm clamping thread family
  • Use cases: Locking vac‑style adapters, harness inserts, and other end‑effector accessories
  • Tools: Optional Hex Flower wrench (manual use only; do not use power tools)
Avoid cross‑threading. Start every install by turning the nut counter‑clockwise until you feel the threads “drop,” then tighten by hand. If resistance spikes or the nut binds, stop and inspect the mating threads.
  • Preferred: PETG or ABS/ASA for heat and impact resistance
  • Acceptable: PLA+ for prototypes; monitor for creep if left tightened under heat

Installation

1

Prepare the mating threads

Verify the clamping thread and accessory shoulder are clean and free of debris.
The nut should spin freely by hand for at least one full turn before resistance increases.
2

Start by hand

Align carefully and begin threading by hand only. Use steady, even pressure.
If you feel grinding or sudden binding, back off immediately to avoid damaging printed threads.
3

Seat the accessory

Tighten until the accessory shoulder firmly contacts the end effector. If you need more leverage, use the Hex Flower wrench for the final quarter‑turn only.
With moderate hand force, the accessory should not rotate relative to the end effector.

Troubleshooting

  • Chase the threads by running the nut on/off a few times
  • Add a small amount of PTFE/silicone grease
  • Increase nozzle temperature 5–10 °C on the next print to improve layer bonding
  • Ensure the accessory shoulder is fully seated against the end effector
  • Add an extra 1/8–1/4 turn with the Hex Flower wrench
  • Consider a light application of removable thread locker formulated for plastics
  • Reprint with higher perimeter count and 45–50% infill
  • Switch to PETG/ASA for better impact resistance
  • Confirm print in the default file orientation
