Quick Start

This quick start guide will walk you through setting up and using your Research And Desire Wireless Remote (RADR).

Video Transcript

Today I have the new Research and Desire wireless remote, also called the RADR. And I'm super excited to show you how it connects with both OSSM and also a wireless Bluetooth device like the Domi right here. In order to control the OSSM, you have to make sure that you have updated your firmware to the newest version. Once you've done that, just make sure that your machine is plugged in and turned on. And I'll show you how it connects really quickly. I'm turning on the power switch. And as you can see, it is automatically searching for the device and voila, it is connected. You don't have to do anything else. I'll go over some of the specifics of the remote now. So the left hand knob always is controlling the speed and the right hand knob will toggle back and forth depth, sensation, and stroke. So I'm just going to turn up the speed a little bit here so you can see that's going. And right now I'm currently in stroke. As I'm moving the stroke knob, you can see one of the rings is going up and down. So you can always kind of see where you're at in terms of how much stroke you have on. In terms of these buttons here, this button here is pattern. So if you click into it, you'll be able to take a look at all the different patterns. and you can select one using the pattern button again. This button here is stop and go, pause or play. So there we go, it stopped your OSSM immediately and then it says if you click it again, device is stopped. Once it stops you can just like turn up the speed again and it'll start working again. And that's it for controlling the OSSM. So I also wanted to show you how to control the Domi, so I'm just gonna turn this off and I'm gonna unplug my OSSM. Alright, so now I've got my Domi and I'm just gonna turn it on. So it's on now and I'm gonna just do the same thing like I did with the OSSM. I turn it on and it's gonna automatically search for the device. And look at that, it is connected to my Domi now. I can play with the knob. And there's that stop button as well. And there you have it, you have the new wireless remote radar connecting both to the Domi and to the OSSM.

RADR was originally designed as a wireless, user-friendly controller for the OSSM (Open-Source Sex Machine), created in partnership with The Kinkymakers. However, it has since evolved into a generic wireless controller for a range of Bluetooth-enabled devices by leveraging the ButtplugIO protocol.

In this guide, I’ll show you how to pair your RADR with the OSSM and start using it immediately - as well as with the Domi 2 by Lovense.

If you want a full breakdown of all the devices we support, see the Device Support page.

Getting Started

Remote Layout

The RADR is designed for simple, tactile control.

Top Edge:

  • Left Bumper on the left side

  • Power Switch above the screen to the left of the USB-C

  • Right Bumper on the right side

Front Face:

  • Full-color LCD screen centered on the device

  • Three buttons directly below the screen:

    • Left Button: Home / Back

    • Middle Button: Pause / Stop

    • Right Button: Menu / OK

Sides:

  • Left Knob (encoder) on the left edge

  • Right Knob (encoder) on the right edge

Powering On

Before you start, make sure your RADR is charged using a USB-C cable.

Once it has enough power, flip the Power Switch to the right (toward the USB-C) to turn it on.

When powered up, RADR will automatically begin looking for nearby Bluetooth devices - but not just any device. It only searches for those that are officially supported, and you can find the supported devices here:

Device Support

You’ll need to have either an OSSM (Open-Source Sex Machine) or a Lovense Domi 2 nearby.

In this quick start, we’ll focus on pairing with the OSSM.

Pairing with the OSSM

Make sure your OSSM is updated to firmware 2.0.0 or higher. If you need help flashing your OSSM, checkout this guide:

Flashing your OSSM

Once updated, turn on your OSSM and let it complete its homing procedure, and then leave the device powered on.

Play Controls

When both your OSSM and your RADR are powered on and nearby, they will automatically pair and show you the Play Controls.

Here’s how the controls currently work:

  • Left Knob

    • Adjust speed

  • Right Knob

    • Adjust current adjustment mode (Depth, Sensation, Stroke)

  • Right Bumper / Left Bumper

    • Cycle through current adjustment mode (Depth, Sensation, Stroke)

  • Left Button

    • Open OSSM Device Settings (Future feature)

  • Middle Button

    • Single press: Pause the session; Increase speed to resume

    • Double press: Stop the session and reset to default play settings

  • Right Button

    • Open Pattern Mode

Pattern Mode

If you press the bottom-right button, you’ll enter Pattern Mode.

This allows you to choose from a library of built-in patterns to play on your OSSM device

  • Left Knob

    • Adjust speed

  • Right Knob

    • Scroll through list of patterns

  • Right Bumper / Left Bumper

    • No Action

  • Left Button

    • Exit to Play Controls without applying

  • Middle Button

    • Single press: Pause the session and exit to Play Controls; Increase speed to resume

  • Right Button

    • Select currently highlighted pattern

Stay tuned for more patterns!

Disconnects and Recovery

If, for any reason, your RADR loses connection during play - whether because you walked too far away, your device lost power, or the Bluetooth link was interrupted - don’t worry.

In most cases, it will automatically reconnect within a few seconds (typically 2–5 seconds).

If the connection is not re-established quickly enough, as a safety precaution the OSSM will ramp down speed and pause the session.

If there are issues reconnecting, power-cycle the RADR and your device, and they’ll reconnect normally in the new session.

That’s All There Is To It

Once you’ve completed setup:

  • Your RADR is fully charged and paired

  • OSSM (or another supported device) is running the latest firmware

  • You can now use your RADR without cables or legacy displays

From here, you can explore more advanced features, supported devices, and pattern libraries in the linked documentation.

Enjoy your new Research And Desire Wireless Remote - designed for seamless, intuitive control across the RAD ecosystem.
