Connect RADR to Wi-Fi

Join RADR to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, confirm the success screen, and recover from setup-portal problems.

Wi-Fi connectivity allows your Research And Desire wireless Remote (RADR) to receive updates wirelessly, including new device support and bug fixes. This guide walks you through the simple setup process.

Why Connect to Wi-Fi?

Connecting your RADR to Wi-Fi enables:

  • Over-the-air updates — Get the latest firmware and features without cables
  • New device support — Receive updates that add compatibility with new Bluetooth devices
  • Bug fixes — Stay up to date with the latest improvements

Wi-Fi is optional for basic use. RADR controls devices entirely over Bluetooth, so you can use it without Wi-Fi. However, we recommend connecting to receive updates.

Before You Start

Make sure you have:

  • Your home Wi-Fi network name and password
  • A phone or tablet to scan the QR code (or you can connect manually)
  • Your RADR charged and powered on

RADR only supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks. If your router broadcasts both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, make sure to connect to the 2.4GHz network.

Connecting to Wi-Fi

Step 1: Open Wi-Fi Settings

From the main menu on your RADR:

  1. Select Settings using the right knob and button
  2. Select Wi-Fi Settings

Your RADR will create its own temporary Wi-Fi network for setup.

Step 2: Connect to RADR's Setup Network

A QR code appears on your RADR's screen. You have two options:

Option A: Scan the QR Code (Easiest)

Use your phone's camera to scan the QR code. Your phone will automatically connect to RADR's setup network.

Option B: Connect Manually

On your phone or tablet, go to Wi-Fi settings and connect to:

  • Network Name: RADR Setup
  • Password: None (open network)

Step 3: Enter Your Wi-Fi Details

Once connected to RADR's setup network, a configuration page opens automatically in your browser.

If the page doesn't open automatically, open your browser and go to 192.168.4.1

On the configuration page:

  1. Select your home Wi-Fi network from the list
  2. Enter your Wi-Fi password
  3. Tap Save

Step 4: Wait for Confirmation

RADR will connect to your Wi-Fi network. When successful, you'll see:

"Wi-Fi Connected" on the screen

Your RADR is now ready to receive updates!

Troubleshooting

The configuration page doesn't open

  • Make sure you're connected to "RADR Setup" (check your phone's Wi-Fi settings)
  • Try opening a browser and going to 192.168.4.1
  • Wait a few seconds after connecting — the page may take a moment to load
  • If the page still doesn't appear, restart Wi-Fi Settings on your RADR and try again

My Wi-Fi network isn't in the list

  • Move closer to your Wi-Fi router
  • Make sure you're looking for your 2.4GHz network (not 5GHz)
  • Try refreshing the page
  • Restart Wi-Fi Settings and scan again

Connection fails after entering password

  • Double-check that you entered the correct password
  • Make sure you selected the right network
  • Move RADR closer to your router
  • Verify your router is working (try connecting another device)

The setup times out before I can connect

The Wi-Fi setup portal has a 30-second timeout. If it closes before you finish:

  1. Go back to Settings > Wi-Fi Settings on your RADR
  2. The setup process will restart
  3. Have your Wi-Fi password ready to enter quickly

I connected but RADR says it's not online

  • Check that your home Wi-Fi has internet access
  • Try restarting your RADR (Settings > Restart Device)
  • Re-run the Wi-Fi setup process
