Device Ownership Dispute Policy

Devices such as the Deep Throat Trainer and Chastity Lockbox are often shared between users—typically in dynamics involving a "top" and a "bottom." On occasion, disputes arise regarding device ownership, particularly if both parties have had access to the device through their respective accounts.

This policy outlines how ownership is determined and how we handle disputes.

Primary Ownership

The primary owner of a device is the individual who completed the purchase.

  • If a purchase can be verified through a Shopify order or our internal store records and the purchaser’s email matches the one used to contact us, they are considered the owner of the device.

  • The primary owner has the right to request the device be unpaired from any account, regardless of which account it is currently associated with.

  • No justification is required. Upon verified request, support will immediately unpair the device.

Ownership Without Purchase Record

If no purchase record can be verified, we will establish ownership based on device usage history:

  • The first account to log an event from the device (e.g. pairing, usage, commands) will be treated as the initial owner.

  • This account holder may request the device be unpaired from any account at any time, for any reason.

  • Support staff will process this unpairing immediately.

Transferring Ownership

Ownership may be transferred under the following condition:

Voluntary Unpairing by Owner

  • If the current owner unpairs the device from their account, this is treated as an intentional release of ownership.

  • The next user to pair the device will become the new owner.

  • Once a device has been re-paired by a new user after an unpairing event, ownership is transferred to that new user.

Note: In disputes where the ownership history is unclear, Research and Desire will assign the original purchaser as the owner of the device.

Transfer of Ownership by Research and Desire

In some cases, a user may request a device transfer, but the original purchaser is still listed as the owner. If the device is still paired to the original purchaser's account, and the owner has not unpaired it, the following steps apply:

  1. Research and Desire will attempt to contact the purchaser at the email address associated with the original order.

  2. The purchaser has 30 days to respond to the transfer request.

  3. If the purchaser approves the transfer, we will immediately transfer ownership to the requesting user.

  4. If the purchaser declines the transfer, we will not transfer the device.

  5. If the purchaser does not respond within 30 days, we will consider them non-responsive and transfer the device to the requesting user.

This process ensures that we respect the rights of the original purchaser while providing a clear path forward for active users in unresolved disputes.

Summary of Ownership Flows

  1. Purchase Record Exists

    • The purchaser is the owner.

    • They can request unpairing at any time.

  2. No Purchase Record

    • The first account to log an event becomes the owner.

    • They can also request unpairing at any time.

  3. Ownership Transfer by Unpairing

    • If the owner unpairs the device, they forfeit ownership.

    • The next account to pair the device becomes the new owner.

    • In disputes where the ownership history is unclear, R+D will assigned the purchaser as the owner.

  4. Ownership Transfer by R+D

    • R+D will contact the original purchaser.

    • If they approve or fail to respond within 30 days, the transfer proceeds.

    • If they decline, the transfer is denied.
