Only flash your device if instructed to do so by Research and Desire support. If you’re experiencing issues, contact [email protected] first.

When to flash your device

Flashing reinstalls the firmware and can resolve:
  • Device freezing when pressing menu buttons
  • Unresponsive screens or buttons after waking from sleep
  • Software glitches that persist after a hard reset
Before flashing, try a hard reset first: hold the Enter/Lock button for 10 seconds. If the issue persists, proceed with flashing.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:
  • A USB-C cable that supports data transfer (not just charging)
  • A computer with an available USB-C port
  • Google Chrome or another Chromium-based browser
Some USB-C cables only support charging. If your device isn’t detected, try a different cable that supports data transfer.

Flashing instructions

1

Connect your device

Plug the USB-C cable into your Chastity Lockbox and connect the other end to your computer.
2

Open the web flasher

Navigate to researchanddesire.com/LKBX in your browser.
3

Connect to your device

Click Connect and select the device labeled USB JTAG Serial Debug (or similar) from the list.
If no device appears, verify your cable supports data transfer and try a different USB port.
4

Choose whether to erase device data

When prompted with the Erase device checkbox:
  • Do NOT check the box if you want to keep your current settings and lock state. This reinstalls the firmware while preserving your data—ideal for fixing freezing issues.
  • Check the box if you want a full factory reset that erases all settings.
Either option preserves your dashboard pairing. Your Lockbox remains connected to your account.
5

Complete the flash

Click Next to begin the flash process. Wait for it to complete.
Once complete, your device restarts. If you erased the device, it displays the calibration screen—see the calibration guide for next steps. If you didn’t erase, the device returns to normal operation.
0:00 Hi there, today I’m going to show you how to reflash your Chastity Lockbox. It’s not recommended that you do this unless instructed to do so by Research and Desire support. If you have any issues, please start by contacting Research and Desire first. The email address is [email protected]. If you have been instructed to reflash your Chastity Lockbox, then you’ll want to watch this video to make sure you understand that process.0:24 I’m starting today at researchanddesire.com and you can see that I have my lockbox on the desk. Now, in the browser, I’m going to navigate to the link that was provided to me. It is researchanddesire.com/LKBX, our shorthand for lockbox. This will bring you to the web flasher.0:35 Then, on my device, I’m just going to make sure there is a USB-C cable plugged in to my Chastity Lockbox and also into my laptop. Most laptops should work, as long as it’s got a data cable. That’s the only thing that’s really important. What I mean by that is some cables, some USB-C cables only do charging and not data. So it is absolutely critical that data can be transferred.1:10 Assuming that’s the case, then we can now click on Connect. This will look for devices inside of your USB-C ports. You’ll want to find one that reads USB JTAG Serial Debug or something of this nature. Clicking Connect will attempt to connect to that box.1:26 If you cannot connect to your Chastity Lockbox using this method, please contact Research and Desire. But if you do see this pop-up, then you can now reinstall the software, which will erase all the settings on your device. However, it will not unpair this from your account. The pairing, if you have paired it, will still be there.2:05 You can now see the latest firmware has been installed and we’ve entered calibration mode. I’ll end this tutorial for now, but feel free to watch the video on calibration if you’d like to understand it. There we are, we have a completed, fresh install. Thank you very much.
